Students visit to the Government Museum, Chennai
As a new initiative, the city colleges had been approached by the Museum Department to attract more students to the museum, and inspire them to utilize the resources of the Museum Department.
In this regard the Ethiraj college, Chennai, Ist year B.Sc., zoology students (numbering 95) had visited the Chennai Museum on 09.08.11.
In the forenoon, Gallery talk in the zoological galleries had been arranged to the students at the Centenary Exhibition Hall of the Government Museum, Chennai.
The participants had been addressed by the Commissioner of Museum, Thiru S.S.Jawajah, I.A.S., and importance of Museums to the students community had been explained by him.

Commissioner of Museum’s visit to the Zoological Survey of India, Regional Office, Chennai
Commissioner of Museums Thiru S.S. Jawahar, I.A.S., had visited Zoological Survey of India, Regional Office and Marine Biology Research Station at Santhome on 0.8.08.11 for promotion of collaborative activities between two organizations and also for exchange of technical know-how and knowledge for better functioning of both the organizations.
In the ZSI office, Dr. K. Venkataraman, Director, Zoological Survey of India had explained about the various activities of the ZSI, and the Museum and Aquarium of the ZSI had been visited by the Commissioner of Museums.
New collaborative proposals have been suggested to the ZSI by the Commissioner of Museums for the benefit of both the organization.

KOLKATA WORKSHOP
Thiru S.S.Jawahar IAS, Commissioner of Museums along with Thiru J.R.Asokan, Curator-Zoology Section and Tmt R.D.Thulasi Brinda, Curator-Geology Section, Government Museum, Chennai participated in the Workshop on “Museums” organised by the Geological Survey of India, Kolkata on 20.7.2011.
