The Pudukkottai State Manual
published by the Pudukkottai princely State before 1940 AD consists of A Manual of
Pudukkottai State - 2 volumes, Inscriptions of Pudukkottai State - 2 volumes, Inscriptions of
Pudukkottai State (Texts), Inscriptions of Pudukkottai State translated into English (3
volumes) were reprinted and published by the Department of Museums. Scholars were desperately
searching for these volumes as they were out of print and available copies were unusable.
These were released at a function held at the Government Museum, Pudukkottai on 11.5.2002. The Commissioner of Museums,
Dr. R. Kannan,, I.A.S., released the books and the erstwhile Rajamata, Rani Rama Devi
Thondaiman received the first copy. |
The Travancore Gallery- Government Museum, Kanyakumari
The history of Travancore
Government (Thiruvidankodu in Tamil) is well connected with the district of Kanyakumari. From
1729 to1949, for 220 years Travancore was ruled by 12 kings. Most of the events like internal
wars of Travancore Government, the victory of Travancore Kings in the Colachel War, Upper
garment agitation, establishment of postal department, construction of dams, palaces and
administrative reforms took place in Kanyakumari. To highlight the 220 years of history, the
'Travangore Gallery' was organised in the Government Museum, Kanyakumari. It was declared open
by His Highness Sri Uthiradam Thirunal (the Maharaja of Erstwhile Travancorestate) on
17.09.2003. |
