Lecture on 'The Wonder that is the Snake'

A lecture on 'The Wonder that is the Snake' was held in the Centenary Exhibition Hall of the Government Museum, Chennai on 15.12.2010 at 11.30 A.M. The lecture was given by the Chairman, Chennai Snake Park Trust Thiru B. Vijayaraghavan, I.A.S.(Retd.). The function was Presided by the Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Museums, Dr. T.S. Sridhar, Ph.D., I.A.S.

Biology and other characteristics of snakes, Conservation aspects, Common snakes around us and Myths about the snakes have been dealt with. An interactive secession was held at the end of lecture programme. Students from Ethiraj college, Loyolo college and other public have benefited from this lecture.




 



Preservation of Plants and Plant Modeling Technique
Venue : Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore

This Training was imparted to final year B.Tech Students, Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore from 03.12.2010 to 05.12.2010. This was done in collaboration with the Government Museum, Coimbatore. Dr.K.Rajamani Prof & Head, Department of Medicinal & Aromatic Crops has initiated the programme in TNAU, Coimbatore. About twenty students and three lecturers participated in the training. The Dean of TNAU Dr.Kumar, felicited the training programme and distributed the participation Certificate to the Students.

The Training was imparted by the Botany Section of Government Museum, Chennai. Tmt.M.N.Pushpa, Curator Botany Section and Thiru K.A.Murugavel Curator, Coimbatore organized the Training at the Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Lecture on "Preservation of Botanical Specimens & Techniques" along with field collection was delivered by the Curator Botany, Government Museum, Chennai. Hands on training were demonstrated by the Artist Modeler, Thiru. M.P.Raja Sivaprakash Government Museum, Chennai. Wet Preservation and Herbarium preparation demonstrated by Thiru K.A.Murugavel Curator, Coimbatore, and Tmt. M.N.Pushpa Curator Botany and the Tech Asst. Thiru. M.P.Raja Balamurugan.

 


 



GOVERNMENT MUSEUM, CHENNAI - GEOLOGY SECTION - LECTURE - 25.11.2010

Government Museum, Chennai celebrated WORLD HERITAGE WEEK from 19th to 25th November 2010. In this connection, a special lecture was organized on “Ground reality of Lemuria and Kumarikandam” to create awareness to the public. Lecture was delivered by Thiru S. Balasubramani, Marine Resource Management Consultant, Integrated Ocean Research Fountation, Chennai. Dr.T.S.Sridhar, IAS.,Principal Secretary / Commissioner Of Museums presided and Tmt.R.D.Thulasi Brinda, Curator, Geology Section coordinated the programme. An interactive session followed the lecture.

Clay Moulding and Casting Workshop

Government Museum organized a workshop on "Clay moulding and Casting" in connection with the "World Heritage Week" on 24th November 2010, at Centenary Exhibition Hall. Dr.T.S. Sridhar I.A.S., Principal Secretary/Commissioner of Museums presided over the function.
