Inauguration held on 21.08.2009 at 4.00 pm, at the Centenary Exhibition Hall, Government Museum, Chennai – 600 008.
Dr. T.S. Sridhar, I.A.S., Principal Secretary & Commissioner of Museums Presided over the function and delivered the Presidential Address.
Thiru S. Muthiah, Editor, Madras Musings and Chronicler of Madras declared open the Exhibition and released the Exhibition Pamphlet.
The descriptive labels included the Madras Day and the details about the Megalithic Pottery Remains unearthed from the Kilpauk excavations; first Madrasian Paleoliths recovered from Pallavaram and Attirampakkam by Foote & his friend Mr. King respectively during 1863, which really started prehistoric research in India; the Photographs of Yester Year Madras and Pen & Ink drawings of Madras drawn by renowned artist late Thiru S.S. Manian with descriptive labels; photographic illustration about the sweeping changes of Government Museum, Chennai; the Model of the Ship S.S. Irwin operated between Danuskodi & Thalaimannar Pier in 1930; the First Radio Transmitter used in India by the Madras Presidency Radio Club in 1924 & The Corporation of Madras from 1st April 1930 to 15th June 1938; the Mini Sheet - first of its kind issued by the Department of Post on Government Museum, Chennai in connection with its 151st Year Celebration held in 2002 and First Day Covers and Folders on important buildings and personalities were displayed suitably in this exhibition.
The infotainments of the Exhibition were well received by the students & public.
