Panduranga

     Locality unknown. Height 14 cm. About 17th Century AD.

    Vishnu is said to have appeared in this form to a Brahman at Pandharpur in the Bombay Presidency to reward for him for his intense devotion to his parents.  
  
     Hands on hips. It is on lotus pedestal.

     He stands erect on a padmasana over a bhadrasana. Both the hands are kept in hips. One necklace is seen.

 

Rama  with Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman

    Tiruvalangadu, Mayavaram Taluk, Thanjavur District.
Rama Height 3'.5"; Sita Height 3';  Lakshmana Height 3'1"; Hanuman Height 2'4". About 12th Century AD.  

     Rama stands on a Padmasana in tribhanga posture wearing Kirita  makuta, siraschakra and all other ornaments. The hands are held in the posture of holding a bow in the left hand and an arrow in the right hand. Lakshmana in all respects is similar to Rama but he wears jatamakuta. Sita is seen standing on a padmasana in the tribhanga posture. Her right hand is in lola posture and her left hand is in kataka pose. She also wears jatamakuta, haras, valayas, channavira, waistband etc. Siraschakra is present. Hanuman stands on a padmasana wearing jatamakuta. He  has udarabandha. His hands are held in the  usual supplicating manner.

     Olayakunnam, Pattukkottai Taluk, Thanjavur District.  Height 85 cm. About 14th Century AD.

     Rama stands on a padmasana in tribhanga posture over a square bhadrasana. He is seen with his left hand in the posture of holding a bow and his right hand is holding an arrow. He is wearing a kirita makuta on his head. He is oval faced with sharp features. As for ornaments he is wearing necklaces, sacred thread, valayas, shoulder tassels, udarabandha, padasaras etc.,
