Tirumalisai Alvar

 

Tirumalisai Alvar

     Tiruppuvanam, Sivaganga Taluk, Madurai District. Height 49 cm. About 14th Century AD.

     Tirumalisai Alvar standing on a padmasana over a bhadrasana. The eyes are fully open and the hair is fastened in a knot on the top of the head. Hands are in anjali posture.

 

 

Balakrishna

       Srinivasanallur, Musiri Taluk, Trichy District. Height 51 cm. About 14th Century AD.

     Balakrishna dancing on the padmasana over a square bhadrasana. Makarakundalas in the ears, a long necklace, channavira, keyuras, valayas and a jewelled katisutra are worn as ornaments. Right hand is extended forward and left is in the posture of dancing.

Navanitakrishna

 

Navanitakrishna

     Srinivasanallur, Musiri Taluk, Trichy District. Height 51cm. About 14th Century AD.
    

     Navanitakrishna dancing on a padmasana over a bhadrasana. He has two hands. The right hand holds butter in the palm, while the left hand is extended. He has three rows of necklaces, makarakundalas in his ears and channavira.

 

 

Dhanvantari

     Pattakkudi, Tiruppattur Taluk, Ramnad District.  Height 3.5 cm with disc 5.5 cm. About 17th century AD.

     The left hand holds a flask of medicine, the right a rounded object, presumably a ball of medicine or possibly a bowl into which to pour the medicine from the flask. There is a girdle apparently without decorative ends.
