Bidri Wares

      Bidri, Andhra Pradesh. About 19th Century AD.

     In Bidri, the metal ground is copper, tin and lead made black on the surface by a solution of  'sal ammoniac' and  'sulphate' when the required pattern is graven over the article under preperation, and inlaid with silver, it is washed with a little oil and polished. The effect is magical.

Boxes and Nutcutters

     About 19th Century AD. Circumference 62 Cm.

     Spice boxes, chunnam boxes and nutcutters are very commonly used in the South Indian household. These boxes and nutcutters portray various shapes and mythical animals.

 

 

Copper Embossed Plate

      Tanjore, Tamil Nadu. About 19th Century AD.  Diameter 28 Cm.

     Copper embossed plates are a class by themselves wherein puranic myths are embossed. Here Venugopala is depicted as playing his flute under a tree with his legs crossed. Around the plate various birds and trees are portrayed.
