Shorea tumbuggia

     This plant belongs to the family Dipterocarpaceae. It occurs in Eastern Ghats (Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu).It is an endemic species and is a very rare taxa. The plant wood is used for contruction work, and also used for plough-handles and for lining of wells. Recommended for turnery. The plant  is dispalyed as herbarium in the Systematic Botany Gallery.

Barringtonia

     This is an Angiospermic plant.  It belongs to the family 'Balanophoraceae'. The plant is a parasite herb, fleshy, aphyllus with terminating capitula of flowers. It is a parasite and does not seem to posses any active properties. The plant is used for medicinal purposes for its astringent properties. The plant was collected by F.H. Gravely in the year 1931. It is kept as herbarium in the Systematic Botany Gallery.

Commelina hirsuta

     This plant belongs to the family 'Commelinaceae' . It is a low hirsute herb and an endemic plant, restricted to Western Ghats, Belgaum,the Nilgiris and Palani hills at an altitude of 1,800-2,100 metres. It is also rare and a threatened species. It is used for medicinal purposes and the plant is displayed as herbarium in the Systematic Botany Gallery.
