Glossopteris
indica, Schimper.
It is a fossil gymnosperm plant,
belonging to the late Permian period. It is referred to as dominant leaf. The leaves are
simple entire (or) very shortly petiolate, linear, lanceolate (or) spathulate with strong
midrib.

Fossil wood
At various times during the ancient period, there was great volcanic activity
in many parts of the world and in association with the large flows, we often find silicified
wood; in other places the remains of logs are found, which have been petrified by hot springs
rich in silicates.
A magnificent example of a
petrified wood is present in the reserve collections of the Botany Section.

Alstonia mioscholaris
It is a plant fossil which was
collected from Ghish River section, Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. It belongs to the
middle Siwalic Neogene.

Brachyphyllum
This is a 'Gymnoperm' fossil plant, belonging
to the family 'Coniferales'. The period is lower 'Cretaceous'. It is dhrangadra formation,
excavated from Tarnefar and Surendramagur in Gujarat. It is referred to a twig with close-set
leaves.
