Arenga wightii
Wight's Sago Palm

       The tall palm with green smooth stem (wild coconut); it belongs to the family 'Arecaceae'. It is an endemic plant and restricted in Western Ghats throughout, at an altitude of 150-900 metres. The stem pith sweetish, edible. Floral shoots yields toddy. It is kept as herbarium in the Systematic Botany Gallery.

     It is a slender climber belongs to the family Arecaceae. It is an endemic plant and a rare, threatened species. Distributed in Western ghats, Coorg to Tirunelveli. The tender leaves are used in dyspepsia and biliousness. It is kept as herbarium in the Systematic Botany Gallery.

Vateria indica
White Damar / Indian Copal Tree

     This plant belongs to the family Dipterocarpaceae . It  occurs in Western Ghats, North Kanara to Coimbatore and Tirunelveli hills upto 800 metres. It is an endemic taxa. The plant wood is much in demand for plywood making. 'Resin', exuded by the tree is known as piney resin. It is mentioned in the early Tamil Sangam literature. The famous Kurinchippattu written by Tamil poet Kabilar, mentions about this plant and is exhibited as herbarium in the Systematic Botany Gallery.
