Miscellaneous Arms
This weapon is with a handle, shaped like that of sword. There is a large nose
shaped blade with small spear like projections on three ends.

Swords
The sword with ornamental hilt, main bar of handle bent and connected with
cross bar by an ornamental curved bar with Makara Mukha (crocodile face) worked on it.
Also a snake's hood with nine heads with the figure of Kaliya Krishna carved on
it in high relief attached to the handle and serving as a protection for the hand.
The second sword from the
top, is with hilt shaped without perforated ornamentation pad inside the handle. Blade
is slightly curved.

Emden
As far as the Madras is concerned, one of the most well known episodes of
the First World War (1914 - 1918) was the bombardment of Emden. This episode created such a
sensation, that "Emden" has become a word in popular usage.
On the night
of 22nd September at 9.30 PM. the Emden shelled the British oil installations at Chennai near
Harbour and set ablaze two tanks with half a million gallons of kerosene. It took one and half
days to put out the fire. Another bomb fell on the wall of the Chennai High Court and its
fragments are in the collection of the Government Museum, Chennai and of the Fort Museum. A
third bomb, fell opposite to the Fort St. George in the sand and it did not explode. |
First
Century Iron Anchor (rusted) recovered from Kovalam village on the east coast road has been
displayed in the Government Museum, Chennai. A large number of finished and unfinished
Sculptures have been found here. This is a reputed Pallava settlement.
