Spears from Thanjavur Armoury

     At the entrance to the anthropology galleries, a very long row of spears from the Thanjavur armoury are exhibited against the wall.

Cannon with tiger head

   Length : 312.5 cm.
   Height with carriage : 138.5 cm.
   Gun metal.

   Cannon mounted on a four-wheeled carriage. The muzzle end of the cannon, the end of the cascabel and the ends of the trunnions are shaped like concentrated tiger heads on it is inscribed the following: "This gun is believed to have been taken at the fall of Seringapatam in the year 1799". The carriage has the following inscription on its rim. " A Brooml. Gun foundry, cassipore, 1851".

 

Cannon - Tipu Sultan

     It is a cannon captured during the operations against Tipu Sultan of Mysore. It is probably of French manufacture. It is made up of gun metal and has a length of 75 cms.

Cannon - Tipu Sultan

     This cannon was captured during the operations against Tipu Sultan of Mysore. It is probably of French manufacture. Ornamental chains are worked near the muzzle and the base and there are two heads of the lion worked on the two rings. Perhaps this is the one selected by the Superintendent of the Museum from the then Madras Arsenal in 1894 AD. It's length is 104.5 cms and is made of gun metal.
