General Geology

The general geological display is mainly composed of pictorial and line drawing exhibits such as model of earth, solar system etc. The effects and impacts of earthquakes and volcanoes are also on display. The meteorites are bodies of extraterrestrial origin which fall on the earth from interplanetary space. All meteorites possess magnetic properties. The term geomorphology is the systematic study of  landforms. The pictorial exhibits also explain the dynamic geological agents such as wind, rivers and glaciers.

Solar System

The sun and its nine planets are generally called as solar system. It also consists several thousands of tiny planets called 'asteroids'. Mercury is the nearest planet to the sun and it rotates the sun once in 88 days. The earth rotates the sun once in 365 days. Pluto is the farthest planet from the sun .

Earth's Crust

Earth's Crust

The interior of the earth has been divided into three major parts. They are:

-- The Crust
-- The Mantle and
-- The Core.

The crust is the top most layer of the earth and is divided into two sub-layers namely sial  and sima.

The mantle is the source region for most of the earth's internal energy and of forces responsible for continental drift and major earthquakes.

The core is separated by mantle and extends up to the centre of the earth. It is sub divided in to inner and outer core.
